Evaluation Process for Older Transfer Courses

While every effort is made to evaluate courses taken within the past 8-10 years, and often we are able to go significantly beyond that, it may be necessary for you to provide us with some documentation to help complete your transfer evaluation. If you happen to have a catalog or copies of your old syllabi, that is ideal. Departmental advisors can often work with these materials to provide a determination. If not, all is not lost.

All schools have copies of their old catalogs around, and most Registrars will agree to mail or fax copies of relevant pages from the time you attended their institutions. Furthermore, our own McKeldin library has microfilmed copies of most catalogs over many years. They may be accessed and copied for a nominal fee. If the catalog description is too short or vague, you may be able to contact your former school for relevant materials. Most departments keep syllabi on file for many years.

Keep in mind, too, that only the courses for which you need specific equivalents require this extra work; courses that can transfer as electives do not.

Remember, the Transfer Credit Center will attempt to help you in this evaluation process. It is a good idea to contact us before you start your research at tccinfo@deans.umd.edu. In that way, if we have made any progress on your record, you will not waste your efforts.
