The Sending Course ID is the course ID from the transfer, or sending, institution. Be sure to search for a course at the sending institution based on their course ID system.
The Sending Course Title is the course title from the transfer, or sending, institution.
The UMCP Course ID is the equivalent course at the University of Maryland as reviewed by the appropriate department.
The Gen Ed column represents the University of Maryland general education requirements beginning Fall 2012. If the transfer course fulfills a specific general education requirement, the Gen Ed column will contain a code. To see what requirement(s) the transfer class you are researching fulfills for Gen Ed, click on the 4-character code and a description box of the GenEd will appear. For more information on General Education, visit http://www.gened.umd.edu/ for details.
The CORE column represents University of Maryland general education requirements. If that particular course fulfills a specific general education requirement here, the CORE column will contain a code. To see what requirement the class you are researching fulfills, click the blue 2-character code and a description box of the CORE area will appear. For more information on CORE, visit http://www.inform.umd.edu/EdRes/UgradInfo/GeneralEducation/ for details.
The Diversity column indicates whether the course satisfies U of M's diversity requirement (1 class, which may be combined with other requirements.)
The Elective column shows whether the class is generally acceptable. If the course is acceptable and has no direct equivalent at the University of Maryland and is not approved for CORE or General Education, it will usually display either an "L1" or "L2" code. L1=lower level elective; L2=upper level elective.
The Footnotes column contains important information about the applicability of the course under special circumstances. Click on the blue link to get details on any footnoted course.
The Acceptability column will display "Y"es, "N"o, or "X" values. "X" means that the class will transfer ONLY if you are a new student to U of M. You may NOT take an "X" course for credit if you are currently pursuing a degree at the University of Maryland; all current students must have permission from an advisor to take any course away from campus.
The Start/End Terms provides important information about evaluation changes to courses in the transfer database. Pay careful attention to the Start and/or End Terms attached to any courses in the database. The terms (if applicable) are there to indicate any changes in content or acceptability for that course. When used, the columns are populated with a 4 digit number representing the 2-digit year and term that change occurred. For example, 0908 means the fall term (08) of the year 2009. If the applicability for the course starts in that semester, it will transfer from fall 2009, but possibly not before. If the applicability for the course ends in that semester, the course will not transfer if the student takes it spring 2010 or beyond. These changes in applicability generally indicate a change in the syllabus at the sending school, or a change in the program here at the University.
